Vehicle Defects

A uniformed police officer can stop a motorist and search their vehicle if the vehicle appears to be defective.

A wide range of defects can be prosecuted. These include:

  • Defective tyres

  • Defective breaks

  • Defective steering

The Penalty

For these offences a disqualification may be imposed or 3 penalty points and up to a £2,500 fine.

We strongly recommend that you seek legal advice if you face such an allegation as the repercussions may be serious and may result in you losing your licence.
