Traffic Lights and Signs

Failing to comply with a traffic light or a road sign may result in penalty points being imposed on your driving licence or even a driving disqualification. Even penalty points can have a disastrous effect if it leads to a person accumulating twelve or more points and therefore normally being banned for at least six months. In such circumstances our specialist motoring solicitors are exceptionally skilled at arguing exceptional hardship and thereby saving people’s licences. Our solicitors have over a 98% success rate in relation to this.

In relation to traffic light allegations our specialist solicitors can give quality advice as to whether a defence will be available. Such prosecutions largely depend on camera evidence. As with a speed camera the prosecution must show that the camera attached to the traffic lights was correctly calibrated. It must be proven that the traffic lights themselves were also fully operational.
With regards to allegations, involving ignoring traffic lights and road signs the prosecution may depend on eye witness accounts by police officers. If you are accused of one of these offences, our motoring solicitors may be able to, through expert cross examination, show that those witnesses are unreliable and that their evidence is therefore weak. Our solicitors have a high success rate in relation to representing clients at Magistrates’ Courts throughout the South West including Bath, Bristol, Chippenham, Swindon, Stroud, Salisbury, Taunton, Weston Super Mare, Yeovil, Cardiff, Newport, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Reading, Winchester, Basingstoke, Oxford, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Poole and Exeter.

The Penalty

The maximum penalty is a fine up to £1,000 and three penalty points or a driving disqualification if you are found not to comply with:

  • Traffic lights
  • Stop sign
  • No entry sign
  • Double white lines in the middle of the road

In relation to other offences you may be fined up to a £1,000.
Your licence may therefore be at stake and so if you face such an allegation we recommend that you contact our specialist solicitors for quality advice immediately.
